It’s National Dental Hygiene Month, and there are little things we can do each day to take better care of our teeth. We created a list of five things you can start doing today so that you get a high-five the next time you come in for your appointment.

Swap sugary drinks for water. Sugar eats away and your enamel and can cause cavities. If you need some extra flavor in your water try adding pieces of fresh fruit to your glass.

Brush your teeth for two minutes, twice a day. Most of us are guilty of not brushing for long enough. Next time you brush your teeth set a timer on your phone to make sure you are brushing for at least two minutes!

Don’t forget to floss. Not only is flossing important for your gum health, but it is also important for your heart health as well.

Visit your dentist for a cleaning and check-up every six months. When life gets busy it is easy to put off going to the dentist. Prioritize your teeth, and make an appointment to come see us at one of our dental clinics in Des Moines or Marshalltown.
